SATURDAY - BOYS
GNP Under 7 Juniors won their first ever competitive match this week against Lawford Utd. They took the lead with an early goal by Jaiveer which was quickly cancelled out by a Lawford equaliser. However, the boys fought back with Jaiveer on the mark again before Angad scored a further goal before half time. Agam played outfield 2nd half and made an impact by scored two goals of his own. Every single boy played really well and this was a well-deserved success after so many really tough weeks at the start of their grassroots football journey. Congratulations and a huge well done to all in the U7 Juniors!!
Under 7 Tigers faced St Finbarrs Phoenix, with GK Archie back in the team after injury- he looked as secure as ever and had some great words to say as captain. Hat tricks from Jovan and our Player of the Match, Balraj (with some fabulous assists) and also 2 from Mohamed which were brilliantly taken. The goalscoring only tells half the story with the team ably supported by Arveer, Dara and Pravir who were all strong on the pitch. Overall a performance the boys can be proud of and one to hold them in good stead as the season progresses.
A pulsating game between the Under 7 Lions & Bedworth United Greenbacks played at the Oval. Bedworth went ahead early on but a brace from Rajan pulled us level. Giaan put in a commanding performance and was rewarded for his hard work with a goal. Fakhir and Manroop popped up with a goal each, contributing to a truly entertaining end to end game. Sahib made some outstanding saves to keep us ahead but a free kick in the dying minutes meant the Greenbacks levelled.
Under 7 Pumas hosted Hillmorton Dragons in friendly action. Pumas (pictured in their brand new kit) started positively on the ball, dominating possession in the opposition half. This start was however undone with Hillmorton countering which led to an early flurry of away goals to take a clear advantage. This was a wake up call for the Pumas which saw them rally with the help of a fantastic 1st half Double hat-trick scored by captain for the day, Harvey Dhillon, to turn the game on its head at the break. 2nd half, a couple of changes and lapses in play saw the Dragons comeback into the match capitalising on chances. A well-contested match ended with honours even.
Under 8 Tigers played away against Hillmorton in what turned out to be another thoroughly entertaining game. Hillmorton were on top in the first half and scored some spectacular long range goals. Our Tigers came back stronger in the second half with more disciplined defending from Sohan and Anokh and great goalkeeping from Kyan. In the final third of the pitch the Tigers were a lot more positive and were rewarded with well taken goals for Akash, Raqeeb, Shrihan and Jai.
GNP Under 10 Tigers hosted Rugby Borough at home today. It was largely a tight affair but GNP showed that little bit more edge and aggression. The pressure got to Rugby Borough who gave away a foul at the edge of the box allowing Zoravar Shoker to step up and smash in a brilliant free kick giving the goal keeper no chance. Another great run saw Karum strike the bar and the ball bounced back hitting the defender resulting an own goal before half time. GNP came out 2nd half and put on a complete team performance. A goal from Karumincreased the Tigers lead before headded another from the penalty spot. Overall, a good performance from GNP Tigers who were resolute with their defending from this week’s player of the match, Prabh Dhillon with special mentions also to our rotational GKs Uday Sandhu & Arjun Garchay who kept all-important clean sheets.
SATURDAY - GIRLS
Under 8 Panthers vs Daventry Town. The girls had a fantastic start to the game surprising the opposition with 3 swift goals from Roop, Avneet and Jodh. With Poppy making some jaw dropping saves the crowd were left on tenterhooks for the 2nd half. Alas the lead was not to last. The mass change in subs by the other team proved too much for our girls midway through the second half leading to a turnaround and eventual defeat. Nevertheless the girls midfield footwork was exemplary with some amazing passing, turning and close control.
Under 11 Panthers have shown improvement week on week and their determination to keep going even when conceding goals is admirable. The girls had a strong 1st half with Dilraj making some good saves. Despite taking a direct shot to her face, Dhanroop remarkably returned to the pitch minutes later to support the defence. Avani made some great runs towards goal, narrowly missing her opportunities to score. The latter part of the second half saw Nina Rose shine in defence, making some great tackles. Mankirat and Isla created good opportunities, showing promise as the team continues to fight on in the league.
SUNDAY - BOYS
GNP Under 9 Lions were in semi final action in the Pool C Trophy event, against Bedworth Eagles. The 1st half was full of action between 2 evenly matched teams - the Lions had a couple of chances but could not break the deadlock and it was all square at the break. The 2nd half started with Bedworth coming out strongly and looking the more likely to score. Despite GNP’s best defensive efforts, Bedworth did break the deadlock with the critical 1st goal. This kicked the Lions into action and they almost equalised immediately, but the goal mouth scramble led to a corner instead of the needed goal. The lions continued to pile forward and they got caught on the counter attack to go a further goal down. The deficit was too much to overcome and that is how the game ended. Player of the match was Veeran Nat for a measured performance at the heart of the Lions defence. In a game where we lost players to illness and injury, the squad can be very proud of themselves for not giving up, playing some great football and pushing all the way.
GNP Under 9 Pumas vs Coventry Saracens proved to be an eleven goal thriller which saw the teams playing end to end football. The Pumas conceded five goals throughout the game due to some goal keeping and defensive errors. However, they continued to play some great attacking football which saw them score six goals of their own with Axel and Jaiden each getting a hat trick. It was fantastic game to watch with a solid performance overall by the whole team. Well done Pumas!
A dominant performance from the Under 9 Tigers vs Athletic United. Tigers started fast and scored 4 in the first half with goals from Kyle and a first half hat-trick from Ekam. The same intensity in the second half as Reece grabbed a goal and a further hat-trick, this time for Jaylan. Great performance by Aman and Rohan in defence and special mention to Amar for a great goalkeeping performance to ensure the clean sheet.
Under 10 Lions were away to our very own Pumas in the internal GNP derby! The Pumas started strong and were leading within 5 minutes. The Lions responded quickly and within 15 minutes further goals were exchanged to make it all square for the 2nd time. Then the Lions midfield took control of the game with Zoravar and Jaydon scoring goals at will over an intense short spell to break the game open. In the 2nd half we saw a brilliant goal from Pumas Savan threaten to close the gap briefly but two further Lions goals sealed victory & bragging rights within the club.
The Under 11 Lions were in Quarter Final action against Warwick Juniors in the Trophy Event competition. The Lions went into the game with some key players absent. Notwithstanding that the Lions battled hard but struggled to keep out a well-drilled and exceptional Warwick side who ran out comfortable winners in the end.
The Under 11 Tigers again visited tier 1 opposition in Christ the King and again shook the home favourites with a spirited performance in a full-blooded encounter. Fine work from Saavun & Elio down the left set up Yousaf for his 4th goal in 3 games, before CTK struck back to take a narrow HT lead. Despite CTK extending their lead, GNP never gave up and deservedly hit back from a Saavun spot kick after Ayden was hauled down. Coach Jat switched formations to chase an equaliser in the final 10 mins but in doing so, CTK exploited the space behind to secure the win with 2 late goals. A good performance overall, with Aarun awarded PotM for a fine showing at wing back off the bench.
GNP Under 14s visited Chapelfields Colts in a game which saw the return of Archie who scored a hat-trick to announce his comeback! Riley added another goal but a special mention to our goalkeeper Lewis who made a fantastic save in the first half when the game was goalless. Final score 4-1 W
