Tigers on the prowl as GNP march on!

SATURDAY - BOYS

GNP Under 8 Tigers played away against Panjab Athletic Falcons. The Tigers started the game positively, creating chances and winning the ball back quickly when out of possession. We quickly scored twice with Shawn running through on goal both times with great solo dribbling. Shrihan added to the goals with a looping strike from a Raqeeb corner. Shawn completed a 1st half hat trick before Raqeeb scored a well taken goal. The Tigers added another goal in the second half through Shawn but should have notched several more. Overall a great performance from the team as they bounced back after last week's disappointment.

GNP Under 10 Tigers early season domination of their division continued with another brilliant performance away to Rugby Borough. They flew out of the blocks via the consistency of their high press and were up at half time through goals by Yousaf, Jaydon and Karum. GNP maintained the intensity throught the 2nd half with more fine finishing by Zoravar, Karum and Jaydon in a game where both Yousaf and Karum completed hat-tricks. However, the player of the match honours belonged to birthday boy Prabh Dhillon who was solid in defence and brilliant with his distribution. Team training work was on "passing through the lines" and Prabh's focus on this really showed in the game.

Under 7 Tigers hosted Kenilworth Sporting Juniors on a fine chilly morning. The boys started off a little slow before finding their feet with Balraj opening the scoring. Arveer’s determination in the box added another to the tally. Aryan came off the bench to strike another couple in quick succession before the opposition pulled one back. Pravir was excellent at the back, making key interceptions & clearing any danger. Jovan also played well showcasing his all-round ability. Player of the match Mohamed added another 2 goals before Kenilworth hit back with 2 of their own. Balraj added another and Aryan completed his hat trick before Balraj tucked away the final goal following a wonderful assist by Arveer. This finished off a fine team performance with the Tigers really starting to fulfil their potential and building momentum as we head into the remaining matches before Xmas.

Under 7 Pumas hosted Southam United Saints. The Pumas bright start was rewarded with forward, Harvey, pouncing on a loose ball with a cool, calm finish. This proved a wake-up call for the Saints, coming more into the game as the half developed. A couple of counter attacks saw Southam capitalise with two efforts taking them into the break with the lead. 2nd half Pumas came out with the same high intensity as the first, moving the ball around positively and creating chances which again saw them retake a deserved lead in the match; Harvey scoring two quick-fire goals sealing his hat-trick for the day. This entertaining back ‘n’ forth contest was not over as the Saints did not back down and again went on to flip the game on its head late into the match. The match was seconds away from a Pumas loss, when Ife stepped up with a magnificent strike from long range hitting the top bins to share the spoils - a fair result on reflection. The whole team performed fantastically, all deserving of the PotM award!

Our Under 7 Juniors played against Hillmorton Dragons. We started positively but the Dragons scored several goals in quick succession. The Juniors boys kept up their effort levels and had some good chances to score. However, in the second half, Hillmorton added to the scoresheet. The Juniors efforts were rewarded late on when they forced an own goal from a corner to provide a consolation. Player of the match, voted by the parents, was Manveer who continues his fine defensive form and was a great example to his team with his determination and effort. Results are one thing, but improvements are another, and we are definitely seeing that with the boys!

The Under 7 Lions played away to a very good Leamington Brakes Black team. The boys gave it a go but ultimately couldn't compete with an aggressive and technically strong Leamington side and came away on the end of a heavy defeat.

SATURDAY - GIRLS

Our Under 11 Panthers put in a strong performance this week against more experienced opposition from Kingshurst Pavilions, showing yet again, how well they are improving and gelling as a team. Dhanroop was fierce in defence and made some impressive tackles and brave blocks, complimenting Ekham’s commanding presence and no-nonsense approach at the back. Isla and Harper really got stuck in, making solid tackles and driving runs at the opposition giving GNP supporters plenty to applaud and cheer! Ninarose battled on again, her confidence continuing to grow on the pitch. Between the sticks, shot stopper, Dilraj was brave as usual, making some great saves. Up the other end Akaal went close with an attempt on goal which had the Panthers supporters screaming! Determination and resolve remained high amongst all the girls this week. Well done for not giving up and for battling on!

The Under 9 Panthers started the game slowly against a well-drilled Coventry City FC Blue team. The visitors soon made us pay, taking a well deserved lead. Come second half, the girls came out of their shell and started putting more pressure on the opponents which saw the lead of game change several times until the end. Well done girls.

GNP Under 8 Panthers hosted a strong Arden Forest team. Panthers started well by pegging the opposition back in their own half with constant attacks. Jodh took advantage, making a strong drive forward from the back to score, but several goals in quick succession by Arden Forest put the Panthers on the back foot. Aish, Roop and Elizabeth continued the attacking press, battling for more goals, but missing several good chances. The 2nd half showed promise with Panthers playing better and continuing to go forward. However this led to them again getting caught on the counter attack to concede further goals. Rhea scored a late consolation goal but it was not enough in a tough game for the girls. Well done to Poppy playing as goalkeeper for the whole game against strong opposition who kept her extremely busy and forcing some superb saves. Great positive attitude and effort from the girls who kept trying all the way to the last whistle.

SUNDAY - BOYS

GNP Under 9 Pumas visited a very tough Bedworth Eagles and came away with a brilliant performance as a result of great resilience throughout the game. Bedworth scored the first goal of the game with some good passing, but Jaiden levelled the scores with a lovely shot from just inside the box. Pumas were now on top driven on by some great runs into the box by Axel, but unfortunately they conceded a scrappy goal, missing an opportunity to clear off the line. A goal by Kian on the stroke of half time levelled things up. 2nd half, Pumas were on the back foot with some good defending from Jovan S, Ziyyad and Jovan G keeping the Eagles at bay, but slowly they got back into the game. A wonderful run and goal from Axel regained the lead for GNP and they never let it go, with a special mention for Mason, who made a terrific save to keep the advantage!

GNP Under 9 Lions were away from home against Lillington Magpies. It was a solid start from GNP, with some great movement of the ball. Numerous chances were created but GNP only went in 1 up at half time thanks to Athrv’s goal. The 2nd half carried on in the same fashion, with GNP dominating the ball and creating chances. Fortunately we were a little bit more efficient in front of goal with 3 further GNP strikes from Athrv, Ryan and Sehaj finding the back of the net. Lillington grabbed a couple of late goals which proved to ultimately be a consolation. All in all, a good performance, GNP could have scored double on another day, against decent opposition. Player of the match went to Sehaj, for his goal and a couple of good assists, taking the midweek training learns well into matchday.

Under 9 Tigers were home to a very strong Coventrians Jaguar side and started slowly with Cov Jag dominating play. Tigers did well to hold them off with some good blocks and clearances. The pressure eventually told with Cov Jag scoring and then doubling their lead soon after before the break. 2nd half started brightly for the Tigers, attacking the game and they went close, denied by a goal-line clearance. However the game then ran away from GNP, with Jag scoring further goals in the second half and showing the difference in the 2 teams; clinical attacking & finishing. Tigers did get a consolation from Jaylan but it was a tough game in what has been a really positive season so far.

Under 10 Lions hosted Weddington Sports Jays. The game started evenly with an early exchange of goals. GNP then piled on the pressure and had around 4-5 shots save before scoring just before half time to retake the lead. A slow start to the 2nd half by the Lions allowed Weddington back into the game and it appeared that the game was going to end in stalemate after the Lions spurned half a dozen good chances. Just when it appeared to be over the Lions finally grabbed a winner with 2 minutes left on the clock. The boys should be proud of a good overall performance but we need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Under 10s Pumas made the trip to play Southam United Saints. 2 very evenly matched teams battled it out for the first goal in the opening half but were both denied by some fantastic goal keeping at either end. A thrilling and entertaining first half with some excellent passing by both teams. Zach Moseley for the Pumas played a number of excellent through balls for the Pumas striker to run onto, but they were quickly closed down by Southam defenders. Much the same in the second half with the 2 teams cancelling one another out. Southam got the critical breakthrough from a well worked corner kick to take the lead. Despite Pumas best efforts in search of an equaliser, Southam were able to extend their lead with only minutes remaining on the clock.

GNP Under 11 Tigers hosted old friends and regular rivals Coventrians Jaguar Youth Rangers at Memorial Park and couldn't have started any better when Elio raced clear from Saavun’s pass in the 1st minute to slot home. Dhairya then made 1 of the 3 world class saves which ultimately earned him player of the match honours when he palmed a well struck penalty away with 2 hands. An energetic Ayden doubled the lead when he met Arjun's vicious corner with an equally explosive header which went in off the bar! Jag got a goal back early in the 2nd half but the impressive Arjun re-established the gap with a run and finish from Dhairya's long kick. The number of GNP shooting chances should have meant a comfortable finish, but Jag made it nervy with a 2nd goal after a scramble in the penalty area and were denied an unlikely equaliser as Dhairya somehow tipped a goalbound rocket over & wide with the save of the season so far!

The Under 11 Lions were away this week to Brinklow Falcons and started off sloppily conceding two within the opening minutes to give themselves a mountain to climb. However, they gradually got to grips with the opposition and deservedly pulled one back when Akalbir picked up the ball just inside the Brinklow half and showed good strength, holding off 2 defenders and finishing emphatically. GNP pushed for an equaliser but conceded another on the stroke of half-time on the break. Brinklow started the stronger in the 2nd period with the Lions defending valiantly via notable challenges and interceptions from Pavan and Harshaan in particular. Prabhvir also made some crucial saves to keep the Lions in the game. However the home side deservedly stretched their lead further mid-way through the 2nd half. The Lions continued to battle, epitomised by an all action display from Jasraj, winning his team a free kick on the edge of the Brinklow box; Rajan stepped up and curled a beautiful free kick over the wall to reduce the arrears but it was all in vain as the home side held on to secure the result.

Under 12 Tigers faced a tough test at home to Stratford Town and ultimately lost 4-0. The boys today battled superbly, particularly in the first half, and were unlucky to be 2 down at half time, both from the penalty spot. In the 2nd half the quality of Stratford shone through and the better team won on the day. Well done to all the players for battling hard and having to cope with a difficult home pitch. In particular credit to Daniel who was superb today, his energy in the middle really helping the team, and also to today’s PotM, Nav, his energy all over the park was phenomenal – he must have covered every blade of grass on that pitch!

GNP Under 14s were up against Chapelfields Colts and the game followed a similar pattern to last week. GNP started off slowly with keeper Lewis keeping the scoreline at 0-0. A few minutes before half-time GNP took the lead through Dylan who kept himself onside well after a counter attack. Unfortunately our achilles heel has been defensive mistakes, and another led to Chapelfields first equaliser. GNP then deservedly took the lead again through Archie but as per last week, just couldn’t hold out and conceded another equaliser in injury time. Positive from today was the second half response but the boys need to stay switched on until the final whistle
