Last minute winner gives U13 Tigers 3 on the bounce to continue fine league form!

SATURDAY – BOYS

GNP Under 12 Tigers hosted St Peter’s Celtic FC. The game started off even and after chances for both sides GNP took the lead through a well taken penalty by Aman. GNP increased their lead through a great finish from the edge of the box by Harjan. Going into the 2nd half GNP missed many chances and St Peters managed to score a few of their own chances and come back into the game at 2-2. GNP never lost their heads and with great composure managed to retake the lead through a sublime finish from the edge of the box by Josiah before further increasing their lead through a goal from Muhammad. They eventually saw the game out finishing 4-3 winners. PotM - Aman Dhesi. Scored a goal and played really well throughout the game winning all his challenges.

The Under 9 Pumas faced off against the GNP Jaguars in an exciting match. The Jaguars opened the scoring with Agam converting a Raylan cross, but the Pumas quickly regrouped. Kandes showcased his composure with a well-taken finish to level the game. In the second half, the Pumas pushed forward, and Nirvair capitalized on a brilliant pass to tap the ball past the keeper. Kandes then added another goal, capping off an excellent run. However, the Jaguars fought back with two more goals from Agam, one from the penalty spot. It was a fantastic team effort overall, with Kandes named Pumas PotM for his goals and tireless work across the pitch and Agam the Jaguars PotM for his vital hat trick. These two GNP teams will face each other again in a couple of weeks, and we expect it to be just as thrilling!

The Under 9 Lions had a very early start for the trip to Warwick Juniors Colts. The Colts took an early lead but the Lions dug in, pushing deep into the opponents half to create chances. While the rest of team held strong and played well to minimise threats in our half. In the second half, the Lions made a few changes and continued to pressurise the opposition, pushing play into the Colts' half. The Lions created opportunity after opportunity, crossing balls into the box and making determined runs in front of goal. Veer, Sahib, and Fakhir all had shots, only to be stopped, saved, or narrowly miss the target. Lions won multiple corners giving Giyaan, Nikhil and Manroop opportunities to get shots at goal. Despite their best efforts and tremendous teamwork, goals weren't forthcoming. Some further squad changes weren't enough to prevent the Colts from capitalising on a few rare chances towards the end of the game. The match ended with the boys putting in great effort but being unlucky not to get on the score sheet. PotM went to Sahib for his consistent battling.

After a spell of unfortunate results, the Under 8 Jaguars bounced back with their 2nd win on the trot, this time against Sporting Rugby Raiders! On show today was some great wing play from Bobby and Oryn. The first goal arrived with a cross from Bobby, tapped in at the far post by Oryn. A second followed shortly after with Bobby making space on the left and finishing off nicely into the bottom corner. Rugby started a fightback with a goal but some good hold up play by Stan allowed Oryn to run onto the ball and finish to extend the lead. The 1st half also saw tenacious defending from Theo and Oryn, keeping the Raiders at bay. The next goal for the Jaguars was one of their best in their short time together; Oryn raided down the right and switched the ball where it was picked up by Bobby, who then whipped in another cross which was finished first time by Stan to further extend the lead. PotM Stan added a 2nd goal before Sporting Rugby created a bit of late pressure on but some great defending by Theo, Mithun and Shaan kept them at bay. Isaac and Seva shared goal keeping duties throughout the game and made some smart saves. A good improvement from the goalkeepers today was their ability to kick the ball up further afield and allow the Jaguars to start quick attacks. Well done Jaguars, onwards and upwards!

Under 8 Pumas played at home against Coventrians. The Pumas raced into an early lead thanks to some great pressing play. However, they let the opposition back into the game, losing the lead with not long to go. However, the Pumas didn’t give up and scored two late goals to take a very narrow victory. Jodhbeer, Jeevan and Guransh scored two goals each with Jodhbeer awarded player of the match.

The Under 8 Tigers won in a thrilling encounter away at Coventry Jaguar Youth. The Jaguars are a strong outfit and started well with any early goal but GNP Tigers fought back impressively with a brace from Kurren to give GNP a narrow lead going into half time. GNP showed determination in an impressive second half performance where Bishoy bagged a brilliant hat trick to send GNP well clear. Jaguars fought back at the end but Tigers were comfortable winners. Bishoy was PotM for his hat trick and a big shout out for Jibreel who was brilliant in defence again.

Under 8 Lions – no update

Under 7 Lions vs Vision Lions. Hard game for the young Lions, Having no substitutes this week. The boys gave 100% on that pitch. The game was level going into the last 5 minutes, but with tiredness showing, Vision managed to score two late goals. Jagraaj and Dev showed great energy on the wings. Elliott was solid as always in defence with Dhillan putting in a shift up front and tracking back to help out his fellow team mates. Man of the match was Theo who made some great saves and when he came out to play striker showed great determination in trying to get the victory. Wasn’t the boys day but as always they showed amazing heart and attitude!

The GNP Under 7 Tigers had a strong start against a tough Rugby Borough Pumas team with 2 early goals from Aron assisted by Taran. The Pumas turned up the pressure but the Tigers were solid in defence and a good chance was stopped by Tobias in goal. Aron continued his attacking prowess, stealing the ball from the opposition defender before driving it forward and shooting to complete a hat trick. But the Pumas kept advancing, scoring 2 goals of their own before half time. In the second half, the Tigers continued to battle but were unlucky with a few missed chances to score. The Pumas dominated for a period, slotting a few goals past a tiring Tigers team. Sahib made an incredible run and hit the post but luckily Rhys was there to follow up the rebound to put it in the back of the net. Rayan’s defensive skills shone through again to hold off further Pumas advances. The Tigers fought hard right to the end and were unfortunate that the final score did not reflect their fantastic effort!

SATURDAY – GIRLS

Under 10 Panthers vs Soccer Rockz Girls. The in-form Panthers played yet another convincing match to overcome Soccer Rockz this week. A well matched game with great skill and play on both sides meant the first half was hard fought and everyone played their part with good displays in all areas of the pitch. A throw in led to a superb assist by Khloe, set up to offer Rhea the chance to take a swift goal. One up, the girls were buoyed and another fantastic goal soon followed from Rhea. 3 wonderful corners in a row taken by Lily were served right on target, but the Panthers didn’t quite manage to convert. The 2nd half saw a momentary weakness in our defensive line early in, and the opposition scored a searing goal. Determined to press on, Panthers renewed their attack. Some very skilled passing up the field saw Jodh deliver a great goal, proving too hot to handle for the goalie. Poppy worked hard in our goal making several saves as the opposition came with renewed pressure. Panthers sealed the win with a great final 4th goal of the match from Khloe. Keep it up Panthers!

Under 11 Panthers welcomed Kenilworth Wardens Kestrels to Finham Park with the girls looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat. The game was balanced throughout with both teams making it to the score sheet including a well converted penalty from Tino. However, the match saw a superb solo goal from Suvreet as she ran with the ball from halfway and topped it off with a thunderous strike past the goalie!

Under 13 Panthers played away against Coventry Sphinx in a top of the table clash. Orna was kept busy in goal and worked hard to keep the scoreline down. Unfortunately 2 own goals contributed to the girls being 6-0 down at the end of the first half. Cov Sphinx were quicker to the ball and kept possession much more effectively. Anaya showed great heart in the middle of the field to make things happen. The Panthers were stronger in the second half with Mankirat making a few attempts on target, missing out on the finish to score. The match finished up 8-0 to Sphinx and with their first loss in the league with 9 games played, the girls can forget about it quickly and look forward to the next match.

Despite a tough loss to Leafield Athletic Ladies, the Under 8 Panthers showcased outstanding effort and determination throughout the match. From the very first whistle, the team fought hard, demonstrating incredible spirit and unwavering commitment against a formidable opponent. Siya, Jasika, Lily, Mihar, and Hargun stood out with their dedication, and the team greatly appreciated the fantastic support from the parents on the sidelines. The team held their heads high and we look forward to the coming matches.

The Under 14 Panthers went down to a heavy defeat against Sportsco Harriers, with Sportsco’s set pieces creating 6 of their 8 goals.

SUNDAY - BOYS

Under 16s went 1 goal up after 10 mins of their game against Hillmorton Blue and were firmly in control after 25 mins being 3-0 up. At this point the boys suddenly took their foot off the pedal and the remainder of half was a tight battle. Hillmorton scored 2 goals in no time to make it 3-2. Subs were made to get control of the game and GNP then scored 2 further goals to seal a comfortable 5-2 win in the end and retain their 100% league record.

Under 14 Tigers faced Atherstone Rangers on the back of a good spell. GNP started off very strong and could have gone up very early on. However numerous chances went begging with some disappointing shooting. This seemed to take the spirit out of the boys and the rest of the first half was very flat. The second half saw a similar pattern, but of lack of clinicality in front of goal. Atherstone took their chances and sealed a 0-2 away win. Frustrating day for GNP, with a missed opportunity to continue their good momentum.

Under 13 Tigers (pictured) hosted Coventrians in an early kick off and got off to a sluggish start. A needlessly conceded free kick was converted from 30 yards by the visitors, but this stirred the GNP boys into action. Harshaan slid a perfect through ball in behind for Aaron D, who advanced and clipped the ball over the keeper to equalise. Aaron D added a 2nd after great work from Ehan who dispossessed and beat the defender by the byline before cutting the ball back. Aaron showed great feet to evade his marker and finish in the far corner. Another free kick conceded by GNP resulted in Coventrians 2nd goal as the defence were unable to clear but GNP regained the lead when Harman B’s midfield press set Aaron D free to finish clinically for a beautifully taken hat trick! GNP expected to turn things up a gear in the 2nd half, but instead they got dragged into a scrappy affair, with both teams struggling to put 3 or 4 passes together! This seemed to suit Coventrians, who pounced on a loose ball and the imposing opposition player lashed in from 25-30 yards for their 2nd equaliser of the day. GNP huffed and puffed pushing for a winner, but not with their usual style & effectiveness. Nevertheless, they had a goal disallowed for a foul on the keeper and two strong penalty appeals turned down by the ref. Just when it looked like it was going to end in a disappointing draw, Arjun swung in a low hard corner and Iklil challenged at the near post with the defender to divert the ball past the keeper and over the line for a dramatic late winning goal! 3 wins in a row for the Tigers and they are building a strong position in the table with games in hand over all the teams above them.

Under 13 Lions visited Chetwynd Cobras on one of those horrible council pitches that we had hoped were a thing of the past! Nevertheless, the boys put in probably their strongest half of football as a new team so far this season. To a man, the Lions were up for the challenge and winning most of the 50/50 challenges, which gave them a great platform to attack from. Jasraj arrived with perfect timing to volley home a trademark corner delivery from Ayomide, before Jasraj turned provider himself with a deft first time flick over the top to send Reon away. Reon sprinted into the box and finished emphatically with a thunderbolt into the top corner. The Cobras left winger provided a genuine threat but Theo put in a brave performance at RB and was well backed up by his other defenders and Harman as keeper. 0-2 GNP at the break. As conditions turned in the 2nd half in favour of Chetwynd, the game’s balance started to swing. GNP defended manfully with Dom and Ryan repelling Chetwynd’s best efforts. But some confusion in the box resulted in an opening which Chetwynd dispatched on the rebound despite Milad’s best efforts to clear. An unfortunate equalising goal followed when the winger’s cross was misjudged and flew straight into the net. GNP then pushed for a winner and were denied 3 times by some outstanding saves by the home goalkeeper. A really exciting game played in difficult conditions but in great spirit. Well done to the Lions.

The Under 12 Pumas were up against 2nd placed Coventrians. An evenly balanced game between the two teams, playing some good football. The story, however, was Coventrians were able to convert their several chances, whilst the Pumas were unable to make the most out of theirs. Player of the match performance from Bahadar Dhaliwal who closed down the opposition midfield really effectively.

GNP Under 11 Lions were away against Racing Club Warwick. The Lions were in dominant form, against a very good team. Lots of chances were created and GNP opened the scoring with a wonderful strike from Ryan, which nestled in the top corner. On a rare breakaway, Racing Club scored to leave the game all square at half time. The 2nd half was much of the same, plenty of chances for the Lions and we opened up a 2 goal lead after an own goal after a wicked corner from Ryan and then Kyle scored after some great team play. Warwick pulled one back again to set up a nervy finish, but GNP held on for a great away result. The whole team were fantastic and we were bedding in a new goalkeeper in Ben and a new outfield player, with Devraj having joined in recent weeks. Player of the match went to Ben for some fantastic saves and racing off his line when we needed him to.

GNP Under 11 Tigers were at home against Mount Nod Juniors. A much improved performance from the Tigers after a difficult day last weekend. GNP started off the game brightly and took the lead with a wonderful goal from Alfie with a volley that nestled in to the top corner. Tigers were on top but could not convert to go further up. Mount Nod equalised by beating the offside trap and slotting home. Second half there was pressure from both teams and some chances but neither could get the winner. Nevertheless, a good performance by the boys.

Under 10 Tigers played Rugby Borough Tigers away from home. With a host of players missing, we knew this would be a tough game. Tigers played the first half with great discipline and determination, a fine counter attacking move with Chimdubem squaring to Nathaniel for a simple finish. The home side came out in the second half, far more aggressive. Some challenges that could have been fouls on another day were let go, the home side grew into the game and with GNP energy levels sapped they took advantage. The Tigers still had chances to score but couldn't find the final finish. PotM went to Chimdubem for his tireless effort today and super assist. Onto next week when hopefully we welcome back some of the 5 players who were missing today.

GNP Under 9 Tigers visited Vision Allstars. Although Tigers started aggressively, making a few attacks, they couldn’t convert the shot opportunities into goals. The Allstars opened with the first goal of the match, but the Tigers soon scored an equaliser, from a brilliant assist by Rajan from the left wing and a great finish by Josiah. Both teams took quite a few shots, but Jacob, awarded PotM with his amazing saves, kept Vision at bay for the rest of the first half. It seemed like it would be a tight game at the midway point, where we saw some great defending from Salman and Veer, strong tackles by Arveer and quick runs from Josiah, although GNP couldn’t convert this play onto the scoresheet, partly down to Vision Allstars seemingly unbreakable defence. The closing stages of the game went against GNP - the ball was being turned over to Vision quite quickly, and the boys were tiring, having to win it back time and time again. The Allstars passed the ball with purpose, kept shape, and scored several goals in the end to take a convincing margin of victory.
